Youth Leadership Flagler’s 4th Graduating Class

The 4th Youth Leadership Flagler (YLF) class graduated on May 10th at the Hilton Inn. There were multiple speakers and dinner included to celebrate the students involved in the 2016-2017 YLF class. YLF is a program that chooses junior year students through an application process and introduces them to different opportunities throughout the Flagler community. The 4th class was taken to many locations including Marineland, Hammock Beach Resort, Flagler Playhouse, Emergency operations center, Water Treatment plant, and many more. The sessions were spaced out on one Wednesday of every month from September to May. The program has already began the process of applications for the 5th class starting in the fall.

Ivy Santiago, a junior at FPC, and member of YLF described, “I loved the experience that I got from YLF because I learned so much about my community that I grew up in. My favorite session was the Marineland and Hammock Beach Resort because I want to become a marine biologist and the session really helped me learn about the career I want to go into.”

Mr. John Birney, one of the influential leaders of the YLF program announced at the 4th class graduation that the students are eligible for three scholarships of 1,000 dollars through their involvement of the YLF program. If a YLF student is interested in the available scholarship, contact Mr. Birney at jbjr@birneyfinancial.com.

John continued to speak to the graduating class, “Thank you for your involvement, your questions, your humor, and for your enthusiasm each of you may leave here now possessed with a greater knowledge, not just of your community but of yourselves, where you go from here I want you to make sure you keep an open mind, make friends as you make connections, and radiate positivity in whatever you choose to do. Thank you all, good luck, and keep in touch!”
