The 2017 American Legion Boys State delegates have been announced, Emerson Cheney and Matthew Mrnacaj have been invited to the Boys State Leadership Conference being held this summer in Tallahassee, Florida. The Boys State conference was founded in 1935, and is a respected educational government program that leads selected high school students through different operations in local, county, and state government. Emerson Cheney and Matthew Mrnacaj underwent a selection process before being chosen as representatives of their county. These students have the honor to accept an all-expense paid trip to the conference courtesy of Post 115.
Emerson Cheney is a junior at FPC, who is taking DSC dual enrollment classes and is a member of the National Honor Society. Emerson described how he feels about the opportunity, “Boys State gives aspiring young men the opportunity to experience the workings of government at both the local and state levels. I am ecstatic to be able to represent my school and community this summer in Tallahassee. I know that what I learn from this experience will help me to grow as a citizen and leader in all facets of my life.”
Matthew Mrnacaj is also a junior at FPC, he is in the International Baccalaureate Program and is a prosecutor for Mock Trial. Matthew described how he feels about the opportunity, “I feel honored to have been selected, and I am looking forward to attending Boys State.”
