Local Elementary Students Get a Preview of i3’s Anatomy Class

Mrs. Courtney VandeBunte’s Anatomy of Design class at i3 Academy has planned to make activities teaching themselves and 5th and 6th graders from Bunnell Elementary and Rymfire Elementary schools about the human body. The high school Anatomy of Design students have to make 5 activities for the younger students, and have already made their first 2 projects.

On January 17, 2017 Mrs. Laura Butchelle and Mrs. Jennifer Colindres (Bunnell teachers), and Mr. Tim Ruddy and Mrs. Caryn Burris (Rymfire teachers), all asked Mrs. VandeBunte a similar question, “Do you think you could design a series of lessons that teaches our students about the human body? They also think high schoolers are pretty cool, so if you contacted them directly via email or maybe even Skype, they would be very interested in learning.”

Meghan Pollock, an i3 anatomy student, and her group created a board game called “The Race to the ER”. In the game, the player is taking a patient to the hospital in an ambulance (the pawn).

  • In order to move you have to roll the dice (2 dice), and answer questions about the circulatory & respiratory systems.
  • If you get the questions wrong then you lose a heart (the player has 3 hearts total).
  • Each player gets 3 anatomical hearts at the beginning of the game.
  • The first person to reach the hospital wins.

The high school students are responsible for providing the elementary students with the content required to learn the anatomy of our respiratory and circulatory systems.
