The Fun Coast Down Syndrome Association is hosting their 11th annual Buddy Walk on Saturday, March 18th from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Town Center in Palm Coast. This walk is to raise funds for foundations that support people with Down syndrome. Also, Margaret and Terri Wickel were faithful members of the Fun Coast DSA and this walk is in memory of them. You can visit the Fun Coast Buddy Walk website for more information on how to participate, donate, and register for the walk! The Flagler County Government Services Building has their own team with a fundraising page, which you can also donate to.
The Buddy Walk was created by the National Down Syndrome Society in 1995 to celebrate Down Syndrome Awareness Month. The point of the walk is to promote acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome.
“Our main focus is education. Educating our kids and the community, as well as providing the tools necessary for the schools to better serve children with Down syndrome,” the Fun Coast Down Syndrome website said.
To participate in the walk you have to go to their website, provided above, and sign up as an individual or a team. As an individual, you pay $15 and are given a t-shirt. As a family of four or more, you pay $10 per person and everyone in the group is given t-shirts. Individuals with down syndrome can register for free, and they receive a t-shirt.
