Artist of the Month

FPC October Artist of the Month: Madison Imperio

Congratulations to Madison Imperio, a junior at Flagler Palm Coast High School, for earning October’s Artist of the Month title from her teacher, Mrs. Chelsea Schlaffer. Through her artwork it is apparent that Imperio is a resourceful artist, which is seen through the different types of media she uses compared to focusing on just one.

Imperio explained that her inspiration comes from music and the support of her mom and art teacher, who both have a significant influence on her.

“They inspire me to make important art, art that really means something,” Imperio said.

Imperio explained how she found inspiration for her specific piece Happily Ever After, “This is a drawing I did based off a photo I took of the Magic Kingdom castle.” Imperio used color pencil and ink for the majority of it, but also utilized sparkly nail polish for the stars and Mickey Mouse heads.

Her next piece, Is There Somewhere? is similar in style, but differs in media and meaning. By using watercolor Imperio was able to show the relationship, or connection, between colors. “It blended together really nicely,” she added. As the two hands join together, their color seeps into one another creating something new, something in life that is different and beautiful.

This last image, named Tigress, varies greatly from the previous two. Imperio created this using digital photography, emphasizing that, “This is one of my favorite photos I have ever edited.” To highlight the statue of the tiger she used a strong HDR filter to bring out the detail, as well as the bright greens and organic shapes surrounding it.

In terms of her future, Imperio is planning on joining the Peace Corps out of highschool, and then going to school to become an art teacher. Check out her artwork below!
