What Is an Integrated Class?

Do you know what an integrated class is? If not, here is some information from students at i3 about these combined classes.

An integrated class is, “Two classes put together in one period,” explained Brianna Bunting, a junior at i3. These classes can be any joined subjects ranging from BioLit (Biology and English 1) to Econ/Gov/Eng (Economics, Government, and English 4). Elora Haynes, a junior at i3, stated, “Well, you take both classes at once instead of taking two separate ones, and you also get both credits.” She also explained, “I feel like it’s more interesting because you get to learn about two things at once.” One class that is offered at i3 is Anatomy of Design (Anatomy and Drawing 2). In this class they are creating a prosthetic leg for Champ, a 3 legged dog. So, the students have to study the anatomy of the dog to be able to successfully create a prosthetic for the missing limb, while using their drawing skills to make the actual design.

Richard Goff, a sophomore at i3, said, “They are better than a normal class because not only do you get more education out of it, but you’re getting taught all the information at once and in a more efficient way.” These classes do seem to be easier and offer more chances to find relations between different subjects. An i3 sophomore, Brittny Doutrick, stated, “Rather than being in a regular class, when you’re in an integrated class you get to have more opportunities to collaborate.” Usually, these classes go together hand in hand, and as Sabrina Abbott, a freshman at i3, explained, “Integrated classes are better than a regular class because you can see how each subject you learn goes or helps with other subjects you are learning.” Many people that take integrated classes agree that it is a more efficient way to learn rather than taking the two classes separately.

Matthew Drummond, a 12th grader at i3, stated, “In an integrated class it’s easier. An example would be BioLit, which is science and english. Science has difficult terms and definitions to understand, so the english component comes in to help us figure it out. There is less work to do, but it teaches you more information.” Overall, you can see that most students at i3 are in favor of integrated classes.
